About the Course

This online GCSE-level course is based on the official Cambridge IGCSE Islamiyat (0493) syllabus, a recognised qualification accepted by schools and institutions worldwide. It provides a clear, engaging introduction to the study of Islam, covering key themes such as the Qur’an, Hadith, the life of the Prophet ﷺ, early Muslim history, and Islamic beliefs and practices.

The course is open to learners aged 13 and above, including adults. Whether you wish to gain a deeper understanding of Islam or aim for a formal qualification, this programme offers structured and accessible Islamic learning in English.

Taking the final exam is optional. You may join simply to benefit from the learning and develop your Islamic knowledge at a high standard.

Course Format and Duration

Each lesson is designed as a self-contained unit, allowing flexibility for learners to join within the first term.

Topics Covered

The curriculum is divided into two papers:

Paper 1: Qur’an and Early Islamic History

  • Major Qur’anic themes (God, revelation, Prophets)
  • Compilation and significance of the Qur’an
  • Life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
  • Key figures and events in the first Islamic community

Paper 2: Hadith, Caliphs, Beliefs and Practices

  • Key Hadiths and their relevance today
  • The role of Hadith in Islamic thought and law
  • The Rightly Guided Caliphs and their leadership
  • The Five Pillars of Islam and Six Articles of Faith

The syllabus encourages critical thinking, contextual understanding, and personal reflection.

Assessment and Certification

  • Students may choose to sit the Cambridge IGCSE Islamiyat (0493) exam through an authorised centre.
  • Taking the exam is entirely optional. Many students benefit fully from the course without sitting the exam.

Cambridge IGCSE is internationally recognised and benchmarked by UK ENIC as equivalent to UK GCSEs.
